.
Nestled at the foothills of the Supramonte mountain range, in the province of Nuoro, is the most important natural spring of Sardinia.
.
The spring, 'Sorgente Su Gologone' consists of a natural pool with a depth of well over 135 metres, only reaching the surface through a crack in the surrounding limestone rock.
.
The deep water is renowned for its crystal clarity, and depending on the sunlight, can range in colour from emerald green to turquoise and intense blue.
.
The spring is the starting point for a short mountain river that then flows into the Cedrino river.
.
The stunning scenery is completed by a forest of eucalyptus trees, where you can enjoy a quiet picnic.

.
Tucked away on a small country path on the hills of Monte Doglia, just outside the town of Alghero, you'll find the amazing, but not very well known, Monte Doglia Fortifications - an abandoned military complex dating back to the 1930s.
.
Built originally to protect Alghero airport, the complex comprises of a large barracks, anti-aircraft artillery platforms, and numerous tunnels previously used to store weapons, ammunitions, and supplies.
.
Hidden in the mountains all around Alghero, you can find many types of abandoned WW2 military fortifications, such as globular pillboxes, artillery spotters, ammunition depots, and barracks.

.
Perched by the side of the road just outside the town of Castelsardo, the Roccia dell'Elefante, or Elephant Rock, is a large boulder of trachyte and andesite eroded by the elements over thousands of years, eventually giving it the unmistakeable shape of an elephant.

.
An enchanting landscape provides the setting for Monteleone Rocca Doria, a tiny village in the northern Logudoro, an area once called Nurcara, just 40 km from both Alghero and Sassari.
.
Built on a limestone outcrop, surrounded on three sides by a lake, the town is a natural fortress.
.
The town's castle, built by the Genovese Doria family in the 10th century, was completely destroyed following a bloody battle with Spanish Aragonese invaders in the 13th century.
